For this reason, the incisors might change position on the long run. Therefore, we attach a very thin gold wire to the incisors and canines which keeps the teeth in the desired position. This retainer should be worn for many years to counteract growth-related tooth movements after having completed orthodontic therapy. From the outside, the retainer is not visible and you will get used to it in no time. Wearing the retainer does not increase the risk of tooth decay or the deposit of tartar on the teeth if you stick to a good and regular dental care.

Retention appliances are used for the last finetuning as well as to stabilize the treatment results after the completion of active orthodontic therapy with removable or fixed braces. In the retention phase, the wearing time of retainers is increasingly reduced.
